On 7 th June, 2019 Chairman Department of History Dr. Kenneth Ombongi held a meeting with Kamal Gupta & Swaran Varma, Chair & Trustee of the Hindu Council of Kenya respectively to discuss the logistics of establishing Vivekananda Chair at History Department. Also in attendance during the meeting was University of Nairobi director of advancement, Mr. Johnson Kinyua.

History Department Chairman Dr. Ken Ombongi this morning held discussions with Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi on modalities to reinvigorate the study of Gandhian ideals, Indian history & culture at the University of Nairobi. Present during the meeting were Prof. Ogutu, Mr. Kinyua of Career services and Mr. Martin Mativo, personal assistant to the Vice Chancellor.
