Dr. Misigo Amatsimbi and David Masika teach history at the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Nairobi. They have published a number of articles and book chapters in social history of Kenya.

In this presentation, they argue that the Friends Church believe in and practice non – violence approach in resolving societal conflict. In wartime and in peacetime, the Friends Church has been active in demonstrating non -violent methods of conflict resolution in local, regional and international affairs. In Kenya, however, the Friends Church quickly became the source of chaos, violent confrontation and disunity. The cause and impact of conflict and estrangement in the Friends Church of Kenya is the gist this presentation.
