MUTED HISTORIES: SEMINAR NINE - DR. BEN NYANCHOGA

Dr. Ben Nyariki Nyanchoga is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Nairobi. Dr. Nyanchoga holds a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Nairobi. He is Coordinator for the Doctoral programme in Archaeology, and BA Tourism. His research interests lie in Environmental Archaeology and Heritage conservation.

In this presentation, Dr. Nyanchoga makes a case for the colonial houses, left behind by the departing British settler farmers. He argues that by and in themselves, these houses, constitute critical  evidence, relics and reminders of Kenya's colonial past that is yet to be fully appreciated. Their study and analysis will unravel muted colonial histories that extant oral and documentary evidence are sort of.  And therefore their destruction is unwelcome.
