The Department of History is one of the oldest departments in the University having been established in 1956 under the then Royal Technical college which later became the University of Nairobi. It has since expanded to its present strength of highly trained  and internationally recognized members of academic staff.

Besides history and archeology programmes, the Department has an array of market driven diploma and degree programmes.
