CS Mucheru Launches 2019 Nairobi Innovation Week

Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications Joe Mucheru has this morning officially launched the 2019 Nairobi Innovation Week.

Speaking during the event, CS Mucheru urged sponsors to support start ups and innovations as a means of promoting youth employment and national development. The CS urged more youth to come forward with innovations as the goverment had set up a special fund to support start ups.


The theme for 2019 Nairobi Innovations Week is "Innovation and Kenya's Big 4 Agenda." The one week event which started on June 10,2019 has an elaborate programme including ideation to commercialization seminar as well as the innovations summit.

There are currently more than 34 innovation week events happening across Nairobi while more than 80 start ups have pitched camp at the Great Court in Main Campus.

CS Education, Prof George Magoha and CS Public Service, Prof Margaret Kobia were also in attendance. In his remarks,Prof. Magoha who is also former Vice Chancelor of the University of Nairobi said, "In order for us to achieve the big four agenda, we must come up with measurable results that adress many problems affecting our country."

Prof Kobia lauded the University of Nairobi for hosting the annual Nairobi innovations week. "The innovations emanating from the innovations week are providing unique solutions to problems we encounter in the public service including good governance and human rights among others.

Finland's envoy to Kenya, H.E. Eric Lundberg said, Finland was a proud partner of the event. "We are committed to ensuring that African made solutions enter the global market."

South Korean Envoy to Kenya,H.E Choi Yeonghan on his part said, "The Korean goverment supports and will continue to support Kenyan innovations that provide quality solutions to issues affecting the society locally and globally"


Chancelor Dr. Vijoo Ratanssi who is also patron of Nairobi Innovations Week said, "we will not sit down until we deliver quality innovations that address societal problems and we will strive to make Kenya achieve gold standards in innovations and creativity.
